November Light – Sagg Main Beach

This recent scene from Sagg Main demonstrates the sun’s current position relative to the beach at sunrise. It shines directly down the beach and sets the place ablaze. You won’t see that here in summer. Another interesting thing about the picture is the graceful pattern formed by the tire tracks – something which I’m usually trying to avoid!

The picture was photographed with the Panasonic Lumix Gf2.

  1. John, you have some great photography here. I only wish you’d open up the aperture and give us a bit more exposure!

    • Interesting point.

In truth, I find the landscape photography at many other websites overly contrasty, overly saturated and overly sharpened… often with compromised highlight detail.

One of the problems with viewing photography on the web is that monitors are widely uncalibrated to an industry standard. The pictures at my site are going to look most accurate when viewed in a darkened room on a calibrated MAC monitor.

In addition to that, I will admit that I favor a more gentle esthetic when it comes to landscapes (something which was probably influenced by the twenty years that I spent making C Prints). For example, the picture at this post was shot in soft early morning light and my goal was to create a completed file which is realistic enough to convey those conditions.

      Thanks for having a look!

  2. Ok Johnny boy -you’re the boss. Keep doin what you know works.
